NAB Preview: mediaproxy company manager Erik Otto discusses video and radio logging tools, IPTV,

By John Virata

mediaproxy (NAB Booth N1933) will be showcasing some new products at NAB for video monitoring and radio logging. Company manager Erik Otto also discusses the company's investment into IPTV as well as the broadcaster's move away from VHS-based logging systems.

DMN: What new/enhanced systems will mediaproxy showcase at NAB?
Erik Otto: Enigma LogServer v7 (Video Logging) and Enigma ToneLog v1.5 (Radio Logging)

DMN: How has the broadcast market changed since last year's NAB trade show?
EO: As far as professional broadcast monitoring and compliance logging is concerned, we have seen the majority of TV stations finally moving away from VHS based systems. This has been a gradual process as everyone knows how long changes take. We have seen a lot more DTH (Direct-To-Home) stations and IPTV providers come up, especially in Asia.
Customers who have been using a "non-VHS-based" logging solution for some time, are starting to look at getting more value from their investment. Logging used to be an "operational expense" due to its legal requirement for compliance purposes. Through added software features, broadcasters are now taking advantage of things like search in closed captions, competitive ratings review and re-purposing of media. Most stations are also logging their competitors now. This is used as a valuable marketing tool for sales departments to compare advertising, ratings, etc.

DMN: What trends do you expect to gain steam in the markets your company serves?
EO: Retention of media for more than the "compliance" period (depending on country up to 90 days). Broadcasters are asking more and more for our loggers to keep up to 365 days of content, which we can provide in a very cost effective and redundant all-in-one solution.
Re-purposing logged content and ability to log ITPV sources is also be gaining more and more interest.

DMN: How has the mobile video and IPTV markets affected the solution offered by the company?  Does mobile & IPTV open the doors to new markets for the company?
EO: Absolutely, mediaproxy has made a strong investment to support IPTV sources and to integrate this seamlessly into the current architecture.

DMN: What is the must see/product solution that NAB attendees should see at  the booth?
EO: Our Enigma LogServer solution for video monitoring and logging as well as our ToneLog solution for radio logging.
